About the art teacher
Hello! My name is Miss Lotts and I have the privilege of being the art teacher here at Hugh K. Cassell Elementary. This is my 13th year teaching.
The 2017-2018 school year is particularly exciting. I have the opportunity to teach at Hugh K. Cassell all year long. This is the 7th year I will be able to serve a school for an entire year, and not just a semester and there is a brand new school with an art classroom! So students will receive a year's worth of art instruction and be able to continue to build on last year's prior knowledge for a strong foundation in the arts, especially if they have been a knight since Kindergarten or Pre-K.
I am an Augusta County native and decided back in high school to become a teacher, specifically an elementary art teacher because I did not have the opportunity to have an art class until reaching middle school. So I wanted to give something back to the community.
I attended James Madison University where I graduated cum laude earning a Bachelors of Fine Arts, majoring in studio art, concentrating in Printmaking and earning my art education teaching certification PK-12. I also recently earned my Masters of Arts in Art Education in May of 2014 and wrote a thesis specifically about ensuring a well-rounded elementary schedule for all.
My own personal artwork consists of ceramics, stained glass, bookmaking, and painting these days.
I love learning and believe learning is a continuing part of life - not just for students. This summer I had the opportunity to enjoy painting and dabbling in some digital photography, which was awesome!
When I am not teaching creativity or creating myself I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and antiquing. A unique family member includes Doodles my dog who manages to keep me busy.
I look forward to meeting you and your student! It is my hope that you will enjoy art and the process of creating as various techniques, media, artists, critiques, and means of aesthetics to appreciate art are explored this year.
You can reach me using the school's phone number or via email:
